Sunday, after a morning of splashing and laughing in the community pool, we were headed home and needed to stop at the bank to deposit a check. This is the conversation Henry and I had in the car as Daddy deposited the money:
Henry: "Where Daddy go?"
Me: "He is in bank."
Henry: Thinks for a bit..."I do not know what 'bank' means."
Me: Mind you, this was another one of Henry's thought provoking questions that has been on my mind since he asked me yesterday. Since then, I have come up with all kinds of GREAT examples to help explain what a 'bank' means, but moving on.... "A bank is a building where you keep your money. When you need it, they give it to you. When you have extra, you give it to them to hold." Lame as that was, I was quite satisified with my Momipedia response.
Henry: "So, that how it works?"
Me: "Thats how it works!"
Henry: "No. This how it works. You put the money in Daddy's pocket and you take it home with you."
Even though there really are no come backs for that....I continued:
Me: "Well, banks keep your money safe, so you cannot lose it. It is just better to keep your money in the bank."
Henry: "I do not know what 'in' means."
Er, stumped again. Well done Henry, well done.
Love, B
